Chris and I bought his dad a vineyard tour and tasting for Christmas. We love going on wine tastings when we are abroad and as we are hearing more and more about English wines and the expanding number of vineyards we thought it was about time we check one out! We found Hattingley Valley which is near Alresford and only a half an hour drive away from us which sounded perfect. Hattingley Valley specialise in sparkling wines and the tour was actually amazing and really informative. We all piled in the back of a tractor and they took us out to the vineyard, explained the whole process of making the wine, issues that English vineyards encounter that you wouldn't in a warmer country and the history of the farm. After that we headed back for a bit more of a tour of where the wine is actually made and finally we had a tasting where we got to try four different wines and a spirit. The wines really were very good and we all landed up buying some to take home. Afterwards, all feeling slightly tipsy we headed across the road to the The Yew Tree pub for lunch... a lovely traditional pub with really good food. It was a fabulous way to spend a Saturday, I don't know why we didn't do it sooner!
