Edinburgh is definitely one of the most fantastic cities in the UK. With the castle towering over the city, impressive old buildings, hills surrounding it, the seaside and numerous cosy pubs and cafes. In all the times I've visited I haven't managed yet to do any of the main touristy sites... I've just walked the streets, checked out the shops, cafes, pubs, seaside and generally just taken it all in. I'm sure I'll get to the castle, Arthur's seat, the botanical gardens etc on one of my next visits, but I don't think you actually need to do these to enjoy this city. I've only ever been in the winter and goodness me it can get cold! That's probably another reason I've spent most of my time seeking out cosy pubs and cafes, shops and the odd museum! I thought I'd share a few of my pics and the places I've been and liked :-)
Cafe's and Coffee Shops:
Artisan Roast - A great little coffee shop on Broughton Street
The Caffeine Drip - This is one of the best South African cafe's I've ever been to. The decor is great, good coffee and cakes, brilliant boerewors rolls and a lot of vegetarian and vegan options!
Hula Juice Cafe - Trendy fab cafe with colourful healthy exciting breakfasts and lunches
W. Armstrong & Son - Fantastic pre-owned clothing shop on Grassmarket. It is huge with an insane collection of retro vintage clothing, shoes and accessories
Armchair Books - Charming little bookshop with books stacked to the roof everywhere you look
The portrait gallery and it was great. They had a brilliant exhibition on called 'When we were young'. It's worth checking out what they've got on.
Calton Hill - Worth walking up for views of Edinburgh
Water of Leith Walkway - Lovely walk along 'Water of Leith' - the main river running through Edinburgh
Portobello Beach - Lovely beach with a little green van serving coffees. We also played in the penny arcade which was a first for me and so much fun (and also worryingly addictive!)
